March is here and race season is upon us! Catch ‘Em if You Can and Snow Joke are behind us now and were a good warm up to a spring full of dashes to the finish line and Missoula Marathon training. And, for those of you who actually read my article last month and are curious, yes, I again beat my husband to the finish line of Catch ‘Em, and by a slightly larger gap, and with a bruised bum to-boot (long story, but in sum: ice sucks!)! With our milder weather if you’re still feeling sluggish, need a little extra motivation getting out for a run, or just need to change up your weekend routine, I have the best antidote for you: the Run for the Luck of It! 5K or 7-Mile on March 16th of course! We’re less than two short weeks away from this fun and festive event. If you’re on the fence about it, get off that fence, go to your computer and sign up today before prices go up a few bucks (on March 7th). And, don’t forget to go through your closet and drawers in search of a green ensemble for race day.
For veteran participants of this race, you know what fun and amenities await. For newbies, you’ll experience exuberant crowds of green, an unusual race course that takes you through the west- and north-side neighborhoods (and a jaunt through the serene Missoula Cemetery for the 7-Milers), a festive send off by the Celtic Dragon Pipe Band, post race stew compliments of Sean Kelly’s, a free Highlander Beer provided by Missoula Brewing Co. (bring your ID!), a costume contest to award our most-spirited of participants, and awesome top finisher prizes for those speedsters of all ages! Plus, all participants will be receiving a sporty runner’s hat this year, perfect for spring training!
Sound exciting, but you just can’t run or walk it this year and still want to be involved, we’re always in need of volunteers! Joe Thoreson is our awesome, tireless volunteer coordinator this year. Please email him if you’re interested and available; we’d love to have you!
Reminder to those participating, we will offer chip/hat pick up on Friday, March 15th from noon to 7:00 pm at the Runner’s Edge (downstairs). Avoid the early morning crowds on race day and pick up your chip and hat on Friday. You may also pick up your friends’/family members’ timing chips and hats or bring them along to get registered.
Also, don’t forget about the FREE kids’ dash for your lads and lassies taking place between the 7-Mile and 5K race starts. You can easily sign them up online, as well.
Please check the website for complete race details. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jen von Sehlen, co-race director.
We’re looking forward to what’s sure to be another sham-tastic event! Thank you and we look forward to seeing you all on March 16th.
Special thanks to our generous sponsors:
