Check this out! The Run Wild Missoula members’ library is now available for you to peruse down in the RWM office. We have roughly 100 books, magazines and pamphlets – all related to running – just waiting for you to check out and take home. We recently created an online account with LibraryThing.com in order to catalogue our growing supply of running literature.
Now before we explain the process of checking out a book from Run Wild, we want to reiterate that this is a physical library and none of the titles are available in an e-book (i.e. Kindle) format. The library is located on the wooden shelves just inside the RWM offices and it consists of running literature by well-known figures – with pages that number into the hundreds – as well as smaller handheld pamphlets with no known author, including several copies of the uber popular “Get Fitter, Run Faster: Training Secrets from Top Coaches to Improve your Speed and Endurance,” which appears in excerpt form via Runner’s World.
There are some very specific titles, too, such as “Running & Pregnancy,” which may interest some of our members, in addition to inspirational books like “Born to Run” by Christopher McDougall and “My Life on the Run” by Bart Yasso. Magazines in our collection include Runner’s World, Running Times, RaceCenter and Club Running!
To check out a book, RWM members have two (2) ways of doing so. The first is to go online to LibraryThing.com and a) login to our account [name: RunWildMissoula ; p-word: ZootownRunner], scan our titles under the “your books” tab, then when you’ve made a selection double-click the “comments” section and put a note in there that says something like this: Nick L. checked out/reserved this book on 5/10/14. Someone else using the system will now know that book is unavailable. Then just go down to RWM and pluck your book off the shelf. We are using the honor code here, by the way, so please don’t forget to mark the books checked out!
The second way of checking out a book is to go down to the RWM offices and ask someone there for help. We will follow the same procedure as above (but we love to see our members!) Also, if you want to view our catalogue of books remotely you can click on this link: https://www.librarything.com/catalog/RunWildMissoula (Reminder: you will need to sign in to leave a checkout note in the comments section).
Voila. Run Wild members now have access to some amazing, free running literature. And, if you have any questions or would like to donate to the budding supply of running books, please don’t hesitate to send us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org.
