Running Tips
- The "ideal" running cadence is 180 steps per minute and this shouldn't vary too much depending on speed. Force off the ground should just get harder so when you're out count your strides and see where you are!
- Practice running with a midfoot foot strike. Many people run Heel to Toe and that can slow you down since you're creating a breaking pattern when you hit the ground.
- Your fist and fingers should be loose enough that a pencil can drop through them.
- Stay relaxed in your whole body and you'll be more efficient and run faster.
- Don't slouch when you start to fatique. Maintain form through your body by envisioning a string coming out of the top of your head, pulling you erect.
Dean Lipp, 50"Being a member of RWM is important to me because it connects me to running community of Missoula, the state and even beyond. I have found the members to be very supportive and encouraging, no matter what level a person is at currently. What matters most is that we are all out there participating in a positive activity and trying to get the most out of our bodies/minds. I find the newsletters heartwarming, humorous and motivating. The friendships I have formed are treasures and they have come to mean more than the act of running. Running is the common thread that initially connected us, hopefully the friendships made will last longer than the ability to run."
