The Missoula Marathon & The Good Food Store
presents:
“"Formulating Your Race Strategy for the Missoula Marathon ”
June 9 , 2008 Monday at 7 pm at the
Good Food Store classroom.
The Good Food Store will once again be hosting these FREE monthly seminars, PLUS providing the fabulous food for marathon runners at the Missoula Marathon.
Speakers: Tom Raunig, Head Cross Country and Track Coach at the University of Montana, former All-American and 2:12 marathoner;
Courtney Babcock, professional runner with Mountain West Track Club and 2004 Olympian.
You've done all the training. You've tested all your gear. You've perfected your nutrition. Now the big day is coming up: the Missoula Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday, July 13. What should you do on race day? How should you pace your race? Should you "bank time"? Start conservatively and speed up if everything is going well? What do you do to recover?
We're very fortunate to have these two top caliber athletes in our community. Take advantage of what they know and come to this seminar. Space is limited and we frequently run out of room for this series, so come early.
The event is free, but seating is limited to 40-50. The Good Food Store is located at 1600 S. Third St. W., Missoula
Missoula Kids Marathon
Kids can do it! You will receive a registration packet, including a log to keep track of your miles. Prior to race day, walk or run one mile at a time. Mark it on your log. Stop when you have completed 25 miles. On Marathon Day, come run or walk your final 1.2 miles! Finish in downtown Missoula just like the adult marathon runners! You are now a Marathoner!
Concept
The Missoula Kids Marathon encourages children (ages 5-13) to become more physically fit by following a fun running and/or walking program. The goal is for each child to complete 25 miles before race weekend. On race day, children who are properly registered and have reached their mileage goal will complete the final 1.2 miles on the Missoula Marathon course in front of family, friends, and spectators. The final 1.2 miles is an untimed, non-competitive fun run. Adults are welcome to accompany their children. Adults with strollers are asked to please stay toward the back at the starting line. No pets allowed.
How
Complete the entry form and register for the Missoula Kids Marathon. On April 1st, start running! Upon registering you have 3 1/2 months to complete your miles. As you complete miles, have an adult or parent sign off on the log sheet. Talk to your P.E. teacher and coaches to let them know your goals. They can sign off on miles completed at school and in extracurricular sports.
In addition to your training runs, run local races to add mileage to your log such as the Run for the Trees & Riverbank Run. Check out the Run Wild Missoula, Missoula Races calendar for more listings of local runs some of which feature 1 Mile Kids Runs. To finds statewide Montana races go to www.runmt.com.
Bring your completed log sheet to the Missoula Marathon Event Expo on July 12, 2007 where you will receive your race number and packet. The Expo is in downtown Missoula, under the Higgins Street Bridge, in the Caras Park Pavilion.
