The Runner’s Edge and Run Wild Missoula are partnering up again this spring to offer the Advanced Spring Trail Running Class designed to get you ready for a season of strong and healthy trail running. This nine week class will meet twice a week, with a Thursday morning workout and a Sunday morning long run.  This class caters toward the intermediate to advanced trail runner and is designed to get you ready for spring trail races such as Runner's Edge The Bitterroot Runoff, 11 Miles to Paradise and Run Wild Missoula's Pengelly Single and Double Dips.   This is a great opportunity to start the year off strong and ready for a fun trail running season!

Who should take this class:

  • Intermediate to advanced trail runners, who have the desire to get better at trail running and have goals for their upcoming trail running season;
  • Participants should have experience running on trails, be able to run a single mile in 8 minutes, and run for up to an hour in duration.  If this is too much for you at this moment, please check out one of Run Wild Missoula's other Trail Classes (more information available here).
  • This class is limited to 30 participants.

Class Schedule:

  • March 30 through June 1 (9 weeks)
  • Class will meet twice a week:
    • Thursdays at 6:15 AM at Run Wild Missoula office (in the basement of Runner's Edge - please use back door on Thursday mornings)
        • Thursday classes will focus on a running workout;
          • Please bring a headlamp for Thursday morning classes, they will begin in the dark.
        • Sundays at 8:00 AM at various local trailheads.
          • Location to be announced in advance each week;
          • Sundays classes will be a long run

      Cost: Run Wild Missoula and the Runner's Edge are choosing NOT to charge for this class - in doing so, the hope is that participants will pass along what they consider the class to be worth in a donation to the Five Valleys Land Trust!  The suggested donation of $50 is to aid FVLT with the development of area trails and open spaces.  Thanks for helping us  give back to the open spaces we are so lucky to have in our backyards!

      Class instructors:

      • Forrest Boughner: You may have met Forrest working at the Runner’s Edge this year, or out on the trails training to compete in the US Skyrunning Series. Forrest has 8 years of coaching experience, including trail running and road running 5K's to 55K's, as well as multiple high school state champions.  And he runs some, too.
      • In addition to Forrest, we will have different instructors from the community joining each week to share their experience and knowledge.
