Come join Run Wild Missoula for the annual Missoula Marathon & Half Marathon Training Class!  This is a great class to take if you're a first-timer or repeat runner looking to successfully train for and complete the Missoula Marathon or Half Marathon, on Sunday, July 9th, 2017.  Run Wild Missoula has offered this class since the Missoula Marathon began, to great attendance and success.  To keep it interesting, we've made a few changes this year...

Class starts:  Sunday, April 2, 2017, 8:00 a.m.

Class meets:  Sundays & Thursdays, note times below

  • Sundays, 8:00 a.m.
  • Thursdays, 6:00 p.m. April 6th - 27th
  • Thursdays, 6:00 a.m.*, May 4th - July 6th
    • *Thursday morning training class routes will be available and marked for the day for all class participants to complete at their discretion, in case the 6 a.m. start time does not work with their schedule
    • Knowing that early mornings doesn't work for everyone, we will have a Thursday evening run option available.  Those runs will take place at 6:00 p.m., leaving from the parking area behind Runner's Edge.

Class open to:  Current Run Wild Missoula members (to join, click here), Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Runners and Run/Walkers of all ages and abilities

New for 2017:

  • 14-week training program (from 2016's 16-weeks) - designed to help decrease possible injuries and the natural burn out consistent with longer training cycles;
  • Thursday weekly group runs (instead of Wednesday) will allow class participants to take advantage of the weekly, free (!) Tuesday Track workouts, and give participants an extra day for recovery between track and class; &
  • Thursday 6 a.m. runs May - July will help the class beat the heat, get your run done at the beginning of your day and practice running early in the morning to prepare for race day!
    • For those that can't make a 6 a.m. run, we'll have a run available on Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m.  They'll leave from the parking area behind Runner's Edge.
  • Pre-Class Informational Meeting - RE Basement Classroom; Tuesday 3/28/17, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. (UPDATED date!); come learn what to expect from this year's updated training program, ready to ask any questions you may have and to meet other folks taking the class.

Training Program Participants Receive:

  • Coaching by Anders Brooker, Hellgate Cross Country & Track Coach and Runner's Edge owner;
  • Comprehensive training programs for both race distances;
  • Guest speakers on topics important to trainees;
  • Customized "Missoula Marathon" gift for registered class participants;
  • Some surprise goodies to help your training;
  • Aid stations;
  • Endurance gels on (5) longest Sunday runs; and
  • Post class party!

Please note:  With the shorter training class time frame, we suggest that you are able to run/walk the below mileage before class start.  If you have questions about what mileage group is the best fit for you, please email Anders.

Marathon Advanced Long Run: 8 miles
Marathon Beginner Long Run:  5 miles
Half Marathon Advanced Long Run:  5 miles
Half Marathon Beginner Long Run: 3 miles

Saturday Morning Breakfast Club Run - free to RWM members!

  • we open the RE Basement Classroom every Saturday (weather permitting) at 7:45 a.m., for runners/walkers to use as their morning workout "home-base".  Runners head out at 8:00 a.m,
  • maps and route suggestions available, and
  • breakfast goodies and hot coffee available upon your return!
Tuesday Track - free to RWM members!
  • weekly workout provided by Coach Courtney Babcock
  • great opportunity to work on speed and endurance
