Advanced Summer Trail Running Class

Date: 06/15/2017
Cost: FREE

Run Wild Missoula and the Runner's Edge are partnering up again to offer a summer trail running class designed to get you ready for late summer/early fall trail racing.  This 12-week class will meet twice a week, with a Thursday morning workout (hill repeats!), as well as a Sunday morning long run. This class will cater towards the intermediate to advanced trail runner and is designed to get you ready for dramatic changes in elevation that you’ll experience on technical trail runs.

Registration is now FULL - this class is limited to 30 people

Who should take this class:

  • Intermediate to advanced trail runners,who want to improve their climbing and descending skills in preparation for late summer/fall trail race season;
  • Participants should have experience running on trails, be able to run a single mile in 8 minutes, run up to the M with no walk/hiking breaks, and run for an hour in duration.
  • If you believe this may be too much for you at your current level of fitness, we suggest you consider one of Run Wild Missoula’s fall trail classes (class offerings, dates and details to be determined).
  • This class is limited to 30 participants.

Class Registration is expected to open mid-May

Class Schedule:

  • June 15 through August 31 (12 weeks)
  • Class will meet twice a week:
    • Thursdays at 6:15 AM at Run Wild Missoula office (in the basement of Runner's Edge - please use back door on Thursday mornings)
      • Thursday classes will focus on a running workout;
    • Sundays at 8:00 AM at various local trailheads.
      • Location to be announced in advance each week;
      • Bring water and nutrition - it will be warm;
      • Sundays classes will be a long run, with plenty of elevation and/or exposure!
    • Please leave dogs at home, for the safety of other runners.  Trails are narrow, and even more so with a group - thank you!

Cost: Run Wild Missoula and the Runner's Edge are choosing NOT to charge for this class - in doing so, the hope is that participants will pass along what they consider the class to be worth in a donation to the Five Valleys Land Trust!  The suggested donation to FVLT will aid with the development of area trails and open spaces.  Your opportunity to donate will be available on the class registration form. Thanks for helping us  give back to the open spaces we are so lucky to have in our backyards!

Class Registration is expected to open mid-May

Class instructors:

  • Forrest Boughner: You may have met Forrest working at the Runner’s Edge this year, or out on the trails training to compete in the US Skyrunning Series. Forrest has 8 years of coaching experience, including trail running and road running 5K's to 55K's, as well as multiple high school state champions.  And he runs some, too.
  • In addition to Forrest, we will have different instructors from the community joining each week to share their experience and knowledge.
