This year's Elk Ramble Virtual Run is an experiment in
broadening the range of options for runners and walkers. We look forward
to testing the model, learning what works (and what doesn't), and
determining if we are able to host other virtual runs.
Registration is now FULL. Please check back for future virtual run opportunities with Run Wild Missoula.
Registration: $35

to participate in this event with the exception of ADA Service Animals. Service animals must be on non-retractable, 6 foot or less leash.
WHAT IS THE ELK RAMBLE VIRTUAL RACE?
Probably the best question. It is an opportunity for our members
to participate in the Mount Jumbo Elk Ramble 15K Trail Race and recreate
responsibly in our open spaces. Run Wild Missoula is required to limit the
number of participants for this race, due to permitting regulations. In
order to respect these regulations and allow more members to participate in the
event, we are adding the virtual component
WHO IS THE ELK RAMBLE VIRTUAL RACE FOR?
Current Run Wild Missoula members will have access to the virtual
race option for the 2019 Mount Jumbo Elk Ramble. The virtual race is
meant for those who are not confident they are able to complete the race course
in the time allotted (3 hours; 19 minute per mile average). Or,
for those who are new to trail running and want to undertake the run in a less
formal environment.
WHEN IS THE ELK RAMBLE VIRTUAL RACE?
You can run the course and have the time count as your
participation between Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, November
10. However, we will not count your participation if you complete
the course on Sunday, November 3 – this is the day of the Mount Jumbo Elk
Ramble, which requires separate permitting.
WHERE IS THE ELK RAMBLE VIRTUAL RACE?
It will take place on the same course as the annual Mount Jumbo
Elk Ramble. The course will start and finish at the Lincoln Hills
soccer fields, and run through the North Zone of Mount Jumbo. Click
Here for Course Map. Run Wild Missoula will
not be marking the course. You will need to follow the route through
Strava or the course map posted on the event page.
HOW WILL THIS ALL WORK?
Once you are registered for the virtual run, you will need to
complete the course within the given time frame and submit your activity
to the race director, Elly. Your activity must be recorded with an activity tracking app, like Strava or Map My Run; or with a GPS watch.
WHAT IS STRAVA?
Strava is a community of athletes from
all over the world. Strava lets you experience what they call social fitness -
connecting and competing with each other via mobile and online apps. Strava
also provides the ability to map and track your runs via your smartphone or GPS
watch.
IS STRAVA FREE?
Yes, Strava is a free service. There is no cost to record and
share activities, and all basic features are free.
HOW DO I TRACK MY RUN & WHERE DO I SEND IT?
If you want to be eligible to participate in the virtual run,
you need to track your run with a GPS enabled device. Whether a watch or a
phone app, you will be able to track your run pretty easily. In the given time
period. (10/26 – 11/10; excluding 11/3), you will track your run. You will
have until 11/13 to email your results to the Race Director, Elly.
If you do not have a Strava account, you will need to create one - it’s super easy. If you DO have a Strava account, you will need to make the activity public in order for us to view the activity and all the data. Remember, you can set it back to private once we collect the data.
You can upload your activities to Strava using any of the following methods:
WHAT DO I GET FOR THE REGISTRATION FEE?
I WANT TO REGISTER MORE THAN ONE PERSON!
Fantastic! The more the merrier. Run Wild Missoula
membership is required. Therefore, if you would like to register an
additional person, they must be part of your RWM family membership. (Also see
the notes below on the maximum number of participants in one group)
I WANT TO COMPLETE THE VIRTUAL RACE WITH MY FRIENDS/FAMILY!
What better way to experience the beauty of Mount Jumbo than
with family and/or friends!? However, we do require that groups no
larger than 12 participants be on the trail together at the same time - this is
in order to comply with the requirements of the City's Conservation Lands Small
Group Permit. Please take this opportunity to practice responsible
recreation on Missoula’s Conservation & Open Space Lands by not over-using
or crowding the trails.
HOW & WHEN WILL I GET MY RACE SWAG?
Race swag will be available at the Run Wild Missoula office (304
N Higgins Ave, basement of Runner’s Edge) beginning Thursday, November
14th. We will not offer the option to have the race
swag shipped to you.
BY REGISTERING FOR THE ELK RAMBLE VIRTUAL RACE, YOU AGREE TO OUR
TERMS & CONDITIONS.
