Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and based on the guidelines of the CDC and local and state health officials, we will not be able to conduct the 2020 Run for the Trees in its traditional large group event format. After carefully considering options for the 2020 Run for the Trees, we have decided to move forward with a virtual option for all participants. As runners ourselves, we understand the disappointment this will cause to our participants, as well as the impact this has on our sponsors and race partners.
Due to the uncertainty of the current situation, postponing to a later date is not a viable option.
All registered participants in the Run for the Trees 5K and 10K will automatically be eligible to complete the virtual run option at no additional cost. If you are not yet registered, but would still like to participate, continue reading for the available options.
Run Wild Missoula has a no refund policy. Why? Most RWM races, including Run for the Trees, require an extensive amount of planning and pre-event expenses that include proper permitting, course control, and the purchase of food and beverages, swag, and race awards.
We hope between Friday, April 10th and Sunday, April 19th, you lace up your shoes and go for a run or walk through Missoula’s Urban Forest. It won’t be the race you planned for, or that we had planned for, but almost nothing is happening according to plan right now. So, we will do what we can to encourage you to lace up and move forward.
Thank you to the entire Missoula running and walking community for your continued support during this time. We will be in touch regularly over the coming weeks and months via email and social media with updates regarding all Run Wild Missoula events.
Questions? Email Director of Operations, Ashley Cossairt
We still encourage you to get out and run - for both your physical and emotional health. But, we do recommend that you follow the below guidelines. Remember, in these unique times of Coronavirus transmission, choosing to run with others is a choice that could have consequences for you, your running partners, your families, and your friends. Exercising solo is the best option right now for the health of all in the Missoula community.
In accordance with Governor Bullock's Stay at Home Directive (03/26/2020):
Leaving your home for essential activities is permitted. For purposes of this Directive, individuals may leave their home or residence only to perform any of the following Essential Activities and must ensure a distance of six feet from others not in their household.
For outdoor activity. To engage in outdoor activity, provided the individuals comply with social distancing, as defined below, such as, by way of example and without limitation, walking, hiking, running, or biking. Individuals may go to public parks and open outdoor recreation areas, including public lands in Montana provided they remain open to recreation. Montanans are discouraged from outdoor recreation activities that pose enhanced risk of injury or could otherwise stress the ability of local first responders to address the COVID-19 emergency (e.g. backcountry skiing in a manner inconsistent with avalanche recommendations or in closed terrain).
